School in a bag

Thanks to the amazing generosity of supporters of UK Charity, School in a Bag, FSCI has been able to distribute 335 special school back packs to underprivileged children throughout Bulgaria.

The School in a Bag (SIAB) project was begun by the Piers Simon Appeal in 2009 with the aim of providing basic school supplies to children from very poor families all over the world, greatly enhancing their ability to receive the benefits of an education. To date, nearly 80,000 special SchoolBags containing stationery, learning resources and eating utensils have been distributed in 37 countries.

Throughout the spring and summer the FSCI team were able to give bags to children in Roma communities in Sofia, Burgas and Stara Zagora. Children from these communities face a number of challenges when it comes to receiving an education – including a level of poverty that means even simple things like stationary and writing books are a luxury item. The SchoolBags will make a huge difference to their learning.

FSCI wants to say a huge thank you to all the people who gave their money to fill the bags with items, the volunteers who gave their time to pack the bags and to our friends at SIAB, who share our passion for helping children to greatly improve their lives through enabling access to education.
